RCC

Rap­pa­han­nock Com­mu­nity Col­lege (RCC) is a pub­lic insti­tu­tion of higher edu­ca­tion in the Vir­ginia Com­mu­nity Col­lege Sys­tem. As a com­pre­hen­sive com­mu­nity col­lege, RCC pro­vides qual­ity, acces­si­ble, and afford­able edu­ca­tional oppor­tu­ni­ties. It was estab­lished in 1971 as a two-​year pub­lic insti­tu­tion. The col­lege serves the res­i­dents of Essex, Glouces­ter, King and Queen, King George, King William, Lan­caster, Math­ews, Mid­dle­sex, New Kent, Northum­ber­land, Rich­mond, and West­more­land Counties.

The Glenns Cam­pus con­sists of a 100-​acre site in Glouces­ter County, and includes a large wooded area with a nature trail and pond. The 117-​acre War­saw Cam­pus in Rich­mond County includes a turn-​of-​the-​century res­i­dence, fur­nished with period pieces, that was donated by the Chinn fam­ily. RCC also main­tains an off-​campus site offer­ing evening classes at King George High School in King George County.

RCC pro­vides edu­ca­tion and train­ing prepa­ra­tion for trans­fer and employ­ment through up-​to-​date, and rel­e­vant instruc­tion in AA&S, AAS, and Cer­tifi­cate pro­grams of study. In addi­tion the Aca­d­e­mic Divi­sion pro­vides access to those pro­grams through com­pre­hen­sive devel­op­men­tal edu­ca­tion, dual enroll­ment oppor­tu­ni­ties, and aca­d­e­mic advising.

RCC is accred­ited to award the asso­ciate degree by the Com­mis­sion on Col­leges of the South­ern Asso­ci­a­tion of Col­leges and Schools.

Career Stud­ies

  • Marine Trades Tech­nol­ogy Career Stud­ies Cer­tifi­cate (24 Cred­its): The pur­pose of this pro­gram is to train per­sons for full-​time employ­ment as marine tech­ni­cians, ser­vice mechan­ics for boat deal­ers, ser­vice mechan­ics for marine equip­ment deal­ers, ser­vice mechan­ics for marine repair busi­ness, and marine engi­neer assis­tants. Wide-​spread use of ves­sels for plea­sure and com­merce in this region has cre­ated a steady demand for qual­i­fied marine tech­ni­cians as part of the large marine trades indus­try. Occu­pa­tional Objec­tives: Marine tech­ni­cians, marine repair com­pany mechan­ics, marine engi­neer assis­tants, boat deal­er­ship tech­ni­cians, marine equip­ment deal­er­ships technicians.
