TRANSPORTATION, LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATION
ASTL is a professional organization founded in 1946 by a group of industry leaders to insure a high level of professionalism and promote continuing education in the field of transportation and logistics. The CTL (Certified in Transportation and Logistics) Certification Program began in 1948. ASTL also offers the Professional Designation in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (PLS), the Distinguished Logistics Professional (DLP), and the Global Logistics Associate (GLA).
ASTL's mission is to facilitate education and certification in the fields of transportation, logistics, and supply chain management. ASTL's membership of shippers, carriers, educators, students, consultants and third-party logistics individuals are dedicated to continuing education and are committed to raising the professional standards in the industry.
ASTL helps you underscore your knowledge and experience by providing you with globally recognized credentials: the PLS and CTL. ASTL Certification is based on a self-study program with online exam modules. Each module utilizes textbooks, and is supported by a study guide and sample questions. ASTL partners with universities, community colleges, and industry organizations offering education toward certification.
Certification & Training Programs
Professional Designation in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (PLS): The professional designation in logistics and supply chain management (PLS) certifies that you have developed a core competency of knowledge in this field. PLS training topics include issues confronting supply chain managers around the globe: competitive strategy, customer value and service, logistics costs and performance, responsiveness, lead-time management, collaboration across multiple enterprises, globalization, risk management, integration of supply chain processes, and transforming the logistics organization. Knowledge represented by the PLS designation is fundamental for understanding logistics and supply chain management, and prepares you for a rewarding career in this challenging profession.
Certification in Transportation and Logistics (CTL): The CTL (Certified in Transportation and Logistics) recognizes professionals who demonstrate understanding of the fundamentals of the profession through successful completion of three required modules and three optional modules. The modules and associated examinations are prepared by a Board of Examiners consisting of Certified Educator Members within ASTL. It is possible for candidates to receive waivers on the basis of education. All CTL candidates must be members of ASTL and have a bachelor’s degree or three years of professional experience.
Distinguished Logistics Professional (DLP): This membership recognizes industry leaders with over twenty years experience inthe field, members must be approved by the ASTL Board of Directors by an active AST&L member. The Board determines approval following a review of the nominee’s credentials including two letters of recommendation. To maintain the DLP membership, it must be renewed annually.
Global Logistics Associate (GLA): Global Logistics Associate (GLA) – High School and entry level certification. The Global Logistics Associate (GLA) is a nationally recognized certification program that acknowledges the completion of rigorous coursework in logistics and supply chain for entry level positions. This certification program focuses on the general knowledge of logistics/supply chain and the associated functions necessary for the delivery of goods. Obtaining the GLA requires successful completion of a comprehensive exam. This program was developed through a partnership with the Employ Florida Banner Center for Logistics and Distribution.
