Shipping & Maritime Executive Training

Founded in 1985, the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) promotes and protects the interests of its Members, who are shipowners and operators, ship managers, ship agents and shipbrokers. SSA also thrives to enhance the competitiveness of Singapore as an international maritime center. It was an amalgamation of five previous shipping associations, namely The Singapore National Shipowners’ Association; The Singapore Shipping Association; The Shipping Agents’ and Brokers’ Association of Singapore; The Singapore Barges and Tugs Association; and the Singapore Shipowners’ Association.

The SSA Executive Development Program (previously known as SSA Vocational Training Program) was set up in 1991 to implement training programs for the benefit of SSA member companies and the Singapore shipping industry at large. SSA aims to promote and inculcate lifelong learning in the maritime community by providing highly relevant training courses for shore-based staff to be equipped with the pertinent skill-set for their jobs, whilst upgrading the professional skills and standard of the industry as a whole. Twelve long and short part time vocational courses are currently conducted by full time professionals from the shipping industry. The courses are very well supported by the shipping companies.
