Hapag-​Lloyd is a lead­ing global liner ship­ping group in Ger­many com­pris­ing a cargo con­tainer ship­ping line and other sub­sidiaries such as Hapag-​Lloyd Cruises. With more than 135 mod­ern ships, almost five mil­lion con­tain­ers (TEU) trans­ported in a year, 6,900 moti­vated staff at 300 loca­tions in 114 coun­tries, it is one of the largest ship­ping com­pa­nies in the world. Hapag-​Lloyd offers about 80 liner ser­vices between all con­ti­nents, a fleet with a total capac­ity of more than 600,000 TEU as well as a con­tainer stock of around one mil­lion TEU includ­ing one of the world’s largest and most mod­ern reefer con­tainer fleets.

Hapag-​Lloyd deploys a mod­ern fleet of more than 140 con­tain­er­ships. All Hapag-​Lloyd ves­sels are cer­ti­fied accord­ing to ISM (Inter­na­tional Safety Man­age­ment) and hold a valid ISSC (ISPS) cer­tifi­cate. Most ves­sels are cer­ti­fied accord­ing to ISO 9001 (Qual­ity Man­age­ment) and ISO 14001 (Envi­ron­men­tal Man­age­ment). Hapag-​Lloyd ves­sels are spe­cially equipped for the trans­port of var­i­ous goods, e.g. cargo with extra­or­di­nary /​over­sized dimen­sions, reefer cargo and dan­ger­ous goods that have to be stowed and trans­ported accord­ing to IMO-​regulations.

Appren­tice­ships & Studies

  • Ger­man Appren­tice­ship: The appren­tice­ship pro­gram is only avail­able in Ger­many, flu­ency of Ger­man is required. Hapag-​Lloyd is cur­rently train­ing every year more than 30 young peo­ple in occu­pa­tion onshore and more than 40 trainees for a sea­far­ing career. The appren­tice­ship is pro­vided in vari­ety of career areas such as logis­tics, ship­ping agent, ship mechanic, ship offi­cer etc.
  • BA or BSc Degree Pro­grams with Train­ing: These pro­grams are pro­vided by the Ham­burg School of Busi­ness Admin­is­tra­tion (HSBA) and the trainees can com­bine train­ing with stud­ies. The pro­grams offered are – BA in Busi­ness Admin­is­tra­tion; BA in Logis­tics Man­age­ment; BA in Mar­itime Man­age­ment; and BSc in Com­puter Science.

Work­ing On Board

For the fleet, Hapag-​Lloyd looks for qual­i­fied per­son­nel - short– and long-​term - to work on board con­tainer ships, sail­ing under Ger­man flag. Oppor­tu­ni­ties are gen­er­ally avail­able in the fol­low­ing areas:
