CMA CGM SA is the world’s third largest con­tainer ship­ping group and num­ber one in France. CMA CGM is head­quar­tered in Mar­seille (France), and oper­ates out of over 650 offices and agen­cies in more than 150 coun­tries. The Group com­prises a net­work of com­ple­men­tary sub­sidiaries, each one an expert and rec­og­nized as the leader in their field. These sub­sidiaries fall into 4 areas: Con­tainer Ship­ping which includes all the reg­u­lar ship­ping lines; Mul­ti­modal which inte­grates our other modes of trans­port experts; Ser­vices which are respon­si­ble for logis­tics; and Tourism where groups the cruise com­pa­nies and travel agents. Facts & Fig­ures include 389 ships on 170 ship­ping routes; 9 mil­lion TEU trans­ported in 2010; 400 ports of call in 150 coun­tries; and 650 agen­cies and offices around the world, includ­ing 64 in China (Hong Kong included).

With over 17,000 staff mem­bers world­wide, CMA CGM reg­u­larly offers a wide array of train­ing, skills enhance­ment and per­sonal devel­op­ment pro­grams to its employ­ees. The cor­po­rate uni­ver­sity FIRST (French Insti­tute for Research, Stud­ies and Train­ing) was estab­lished in 2000 with the aim of devel­op­ing both indi­vid­ual and team skills.

FIRST Uni­ver­sity offers CMA CGM employ­ees train­ing through­out their careers in the fol­low­ing areas: Mar­itime skills (Train­ing given by in-​house spe­cial­ists and open to all employ­ees); On the job skills (rain­ing pro­grams designed to meet the needs of our major job fam­i­lies, by get­ting new employ­ees “up and run­ning” as quickly as pos­si­ble and sup­port­ing career devel­op­ment oppor­tu­ni­ties); Effi­ciency in the work­place (Tech­niques and resources to help employ­ees opti­mize their work­day and improve their work prac­tices); Lan­guages (Two options are avail­able to employ­ees who wish to improve their lin­guis­tic skills: the lan­guage lab (Eng­lish, Span­ish and French) and lan­guage classes. To enable employ­ees to prac­tice their lan­guage skills in a more casual set­ting, CMA CGM also orga­nizes inter­cul­tural lunches where many lan­guages are spo­ken, includ­ing Eng­lish, Chi­nese, Span­ish, Ara­bic and Russ­ian); Com­puter skills; and Mas­ters in Inter­na­tional Mar­itime Man­age­ment, A Master’s degree cre­ated by CMA CGM in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the CECE inter­na­tional trade and logis­tics man­age­ment school and France’s ENMM mer­chant marine acad­emy. The degree is aimed at young high poten­tials and is rec­og­nized by the Con­férence des Grandes Ecoles.
