The pri­mary mis­sion of The Global Mar­itime and Trans­porta­tion School (GMATS) is to offer lead­ing edge edu­ca­tion and train­ing pro­grams that will ben­e­fit pro­fes­sion­als from the mar­itime and trans­porta­tion industry.

GMATS offers more than 140 pro­fes­sional edu­ca­tion and train­ing pro­grams. In addi­tion, GMATS spe­cial­izes in devel­op­ing cus­tomized edu­ca­tion and train­ing pro­grams that meet the spe­cific needs of any orga­ni­za­tion. With nearly 4000 stu­dents annu­ally attend­ing its pro­grams, GMATS has become an impor­tant sup­plier of mar­itime and trans­porta­tion train­ing for per­son­nel from numer­ous gov­ern­ment, mil­i­tary, and com­mer­cial entities.

Also offers United States Coast Guard (USCG) approved courses that will give a US doc­u­mented mer­chant sea­man the knowl­edge and Coast Guard endorse­ments nec­es­sary to advance his or her career. Addi­tion­ally, the courses are designed to meet the reg­u­la­tory require­ments of all nations in line with the Inter­na­tional Mar­itime Orga­ni­za­tion (IMO).

Man­age­ment level courses are rec­og­nized by the Amer­i­can Mil­i­tary Uni­ver­sity and address the needs of indi­vid­u­als desir­ing to learn more on man­age­ment prin­ci­ples relat­ing to ship­yard oper­a­tion, ves­sel oper­a­tions and project man­age­ment. Also, there are courses that are rec­om­mended for col­lege credit by the Amer­i­can Coun­cil on Edu­ca­tion (ACE).

Training Programs

  • Engi­neer­ing Pro­grams: The Engi­neer­ing Sys­tems divi­sion at GMATS is ded­i­cated to offer­ing pro­fes­sional edu­ca­tion in the areas of Marine Engi­neer­ing, Diesel Engine Tech­nol­ogy, Applied Elec­tric­ity, and Refrig­er­a­tion Tech­nol­ogy. Marine and Shore­side pro­fes­sion­als rang­ing from senior engi­neers to the newest trainees will find a vari­ety of courses designed to pro­vide valu­able knowl­edge. Cus­tomized train­ing pro­grams and sem­i­nars are also available.
  • Secu­rity and Trans­porta­tion pro­grams: The Secu­rity and Trans­porta­tion pro­grams at GMATS are designed to meet the needs of per­son­nel in every level of the trans­porta­tion indus­try, from man­age­ment trainees to the sea­soned pro­fes­sional. The courses cover pro­grams from com­plex mar­itime and inter­modal trans­porta­tion logis­tics sys­tems to the lat­est require­ments in trans­porta­tion security.
  • Nau­ti­cal Sci­ence: The Nau­ti­cal Sci­ence Depart­ment at GMATS, has become a pio­neer in the indus­try by team­ing up with ves­sel own­ers and oper­a­tors to pro­vide new oppor­tu­ni­ties for seago­ing per­son­nel, such as the Crew Advance­ment Pro­gram (CAP). Cus­tomized Train­ing Pro­grams and sem­i­nars can be devel­oped con­cern­ing a wide vari­ety of sub­ject mat­ters upon request.
  • Research and Spe­cial Projects: GMATS con­ducts applied research and spe­cial­ized stud­ies; per­forms oper­a­tional assess­ments and process improve­ment activ­i­ties; and pro­vides a wide range of tech­ni­cal assis­tance and instruc­tional ser­vices. Focus areas are: Ves­sel oper­a­tions – afloat and ashore; Marine engi­neer­ing, ship­build­ing, and naval archi­tec­ture; Secu­rity – sea­port, marine ter­mi­nal, inter­modal cargo, and ves­sel; Work­force devel­op­ment – mar­itime train­ing and edu­ca­tion for seago­ing and shore­side per­son­nel; Mar­itime safety; Marine envi­ron­men­tal stew­ard­ship; Alter­na­tive energy appli­ca­tions for mar­itime oper­a­tions; Mar­itime infra­struc­ture devel­op­ment; Marine and inter­modal ter­mi­nal oper­a­tions - modal and inter­modal sys­tems; Mar­itime cargo and trade flows; Mar­itime indus­try lead­er­ship and busi­ness ethics; Port and water­ways design and traf­fic man­age­ment; Mar­itime busi­ness and eco­nom­ics; and, Mar­itime com­mu­ni­ca­tion and infor­ma­tion systems;.

Apart from the above GMATS con­duct var­i­ous mil­i­tary train­ing pro­grams, tech­nol­ogy train­ing pro­grams, con­fer­ences and sem­i­nars for the gov­ern­ment and other industries.
