You can develop the practical skills and knowledge required to work in the maritime industry as a Master Class 5, Coxswain, Marine Engine Driver or General Purpose Hand on commercial vessels by completing a Transport and Distribution program specializing in: Coastal Maritime Operations - Coxswain; Coastal Maritime Operations – Master Class 5; Marine Engine Driving – Grade 3; or Maritime Operations.

  • Certificate II - Transport and Distribution (Coastal Maritime Operations - Coxswain): This program is for people who want to develop the practical skills and knowledge required to work as a coxswain. You will learn to take charge of vessels less than 12 meters in length and with engines up to 250kW, operating within inshore limits (up to 15 nautical miles from the coast). Evidence of sea time/service on board a vessel will be required to obtain a Certificate of Competency from the state regulatory authority.
  • Certificate III - Transport and Distribution (Coastal Maritime Operations - Master Class 5): This course focuses on developing the practical skills and knowledge required to work as a Master Class 5. You will learn how to take charge of a commercial vessel of less than less than 24 meters in length, operating up to 100 nautical miles from the coast (endorsable to 200 nautical miles). Evidence of sea time/service on board a vessel will be required to obtain a certificate of competency from the NSW Maritime Authority.
  • Certificate I - Transport and Distribution (Maritime Operations): This course is for people who want to enter the maritime industry. You will learn how to work safely as a general purpose hand on commercial vessels operating in areas up to coastal and middle waters.
  • Certificate II - Transport and Distribution (Marine Engine Driving - Grade 3)
