Located in Stuart, Florida, Chapman School of Seamanship has more than three decades of experience in training students from around the world in areas of mariner training such as navigation, seamanship, boat handling in power and sail and the nautical information needed for licensing in pursuit of a career as captain or crew. Chapman School also offer STCW 95, a separate course in USCG licensing from OUPV to 200 Ton Masters and Yacht Surveying. In addition, Chapman School is an approved American Sailing Association (ASA) facility.
Whether you want to go down to the sea in ships to cruise the world in a cabin cruiser or enjoy boating on your own waters as a recreation, Chapman School offers mariner training, power boating and sailing for youth and adults. Chapman School offers ASA sailing lessons for levels 101 to 107. This includes certification in boating basics, coastal cruising, bareboat chartering, coastal navigation and advanced coastal cruising. Chapman School recreation programs also offer certification training in Florida Boating Basics.
Career Education Programs
Professional Mariner Training (PMT - 360 hours): This prestigious program provides graduates the valuable skills necessary for a career in both the commercial and pleasure yacht sectors of the marine industry. For experienced mariners, the PMT program opens new doors and advancement opportunities.
Yacht & Small Craft Surveying (YSCS - 180 hours): Dubbed "The Industry Standard," this program will prepare you to enter the field of marine surveying as a confident professional. You will be able to prepare vessel appraisals for condition and value in the purchase or sale of vessels. You will also be able to assist insurance companies in obtaining an insurance value and a "to do" list to make the vessel insurable. A great prerequisite to insurance adjusting.
Fundamentals of the Damage & Claims Survey: To prepare a marine surveyor in general practice with the necessary knowledge and skills in order to determine and report the nature, cause and extent of damage to a yacht or small craft.
USCG License Training: Licensing programs are offered to the maritime professional who has the time on the water, but not the credential. Taught by experienced instructors, these courses prepare the student with the skills, training and testing to pursue licenses from the OUPV - Operator of an Uninspected Passenger Vessel up to Master 200 Gross Tons. This training may also include Assistance Towing Endorsement.
Career Development & IMO Compliance Programs: Designed to help the maritime professional to move steadily through the stages of deck hand to deck officer. They are in response also to STCW - 95, the standards for US Coast Guard approval, IMO compliance and the ISPS code. These currently include, BST - Basic Safety Training, BST - Renewal, BRM - Bridge Resource Management, AB - Able Seaman and MROP - Marine Radio Operators Permit
Chapman Powerboat Certification (CPC) Programs: This multilevel, power vessel training program provides standardized instruction and certification for both novice and advanced recreational boaters. All instruction is provided by professional, United States Coast Guard licensed Captains through a combination of classroom and “learn at the helm” sessions. With the completion of each certification level, students acquire the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to safely and confidently skipper a vessel in a wide variety of situations. The program includes, Boating Essentials, Power Boat Handling, Basic Power Boating, Coastal Crusing, Powerboat Charter and Offshore Passage (OCONUS)
