Training Programs

Marine & Boat Building Programs

  • City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Boatbuilding: This is a one-year part-time course covering both marine technology and the fitting out of modern boat hulls. It fulfills the technical certificate requirements of the British Marine Federation's apprenticeship framework, which is generally recognized as the industry standard training program. The course is an ideal starting point for anyone wishing to pursue a career within the modern marine leisure industry.
  • Level 2 NVQ - Marine Engineering: This is a one-year part-time course covering both marine technology and the fitting out of modern boat hulls. It fulfils the technical certificate requirements of the British Marine Federation¿s apprenticeship framework, which is generally recognised as the industry standard training programme. The course is an ideal starting point for anyone wishing to pursue a career within the modern marine leisure industry.
  • Level 3 NVQ - Marine Engineering: This is a workplace-based NVQ for learners who have already achieved their Level 2 NVQ in Marine Engineering and are in suitable employment in the marine industry, either maintaining or building boats or manufacturing components for them. Qualification is by completion of a portfolio and regular assessments in the workplace.

NVQ Level 2 Apprenticeships

  • Level 2 NVQ - Boat Building: This apprenticeship is for learners who are suitably employed in and wish to pursue a career in the marine leisure industry, either maintaining or building boats and yachts or manufacturing components for them. The apprenticeship framework is a two year program and is approved by the British Marine Federation. You will need to have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade D or better, including Maths and English. You will attend College one day per week, usually in the first year, to achieve the level 2 City & Guilds 2451 Boatbuilding, Maintenance and Support qualification. Part of your day at College will include completion of Key Skills in Application of Number, Communication and Information and Communication Technology. You will complete a National Vocational Qualification in Marine Engineering in a relevant pathway to your specific vocation in your work place. Completion of the NVQ requires the building of a evidence portfolio and regular visits be an assessor to your work place.
