Mar­itime Trade Tech­ni­cal Training

aidt maritime training center The Mar­itime Train­ing Cen­ter is a one-​of-​a-​kind facil­ity that will pro­vide company-​specific job train­ing to Alabama’s bur­geon­ing ship­build­ing indus­try. The cen­ter is a sub­sidiary of Alabama Indus­trial Devel­op­ment Train­ing (AIDT), a divi­sion of the Alabama Depart­ment of Com­merce, which encour­ages eco­nomic devel­op­ment through job-​specific train­ing. Train­ing ser­vices are offered in many areas, at no cost, to new and expand­ing busi­nesses through­out the State.

The Mar­itime Train­ing Cen­ter pro­vides job seek­ers with the qual­i­fi­ca­tions and skills needed to join the grow­ing mar­itime indus­try, as well as to meet the needs of related indus­tries through­out Alabama. It is a mul­ti­pur­pose train­ing and edu­ca­tion facil­ity, fea­tur­ing high bay weld­ing shops, class­rooms, and a com­puter lab. The cen­ter is a NCCER accred­ited train­ing unit under the Gulf States Ship­builders Con­sor­tium and a mem­ber of the Alabama Com­mu­nity Col­lege System.

Indi­vid­ual Training

The Mar­itime Train­ing Cen­ter pro­vides train­ing for indi­vid­u­als and reg­is­tered com­pa­nies in sev­eral industry-​specific skills. These classes are at no cost and adver­tised from time to time.

Com­pany Training

  • Core Course: Intro­duc­tory Craft Skills (72.5 hours)
  • Pip­efit­ting Courses: NCCER Lev­els 1 & 2 Pip­efit­ting (126 hours) and NCCER Lev­els 3 & 4 Pip­efit­ting (132.5 hours)
  • Safety Courses: Aer­ial Lift (8 hours); OSHA 10-​Hour Mar­itime; Over­head Crane and Rig­ging (16 hours); Plasma Table (ESAB) and Crane (48 hours); Power Indus­trial Truck (8 hours); and Rough Ter­rain Fork­lift (8 hours).
  • Scaf­fold­ing Courses: Scaffolding/​Fall Arrest (176 hours)
  • Weld­ing Courses: Level 2 Weld­ing (187.5 hours); Level 3 Weld­ing (370 hours +100 hours elec­tive); Level 4 Welding-​Advanced Top­ics in Weld­ing: Alu­minum (160 hours); TIG Weld­ing Plate & Pipe (70 hours); Weld­ing w/​OSHA (Day - 480 hours); and Weld­ing w/​OSHA (Night - 240 hours)
  • Qual­ity Con­trol: NDT-​Liquid Pen­e­trant (Dye) Test­ing (20 hours); NDT-​Magnetic Par­ti­cle Test­ing (20 hours); NDT-​Ultrasonic Test­ing Level 1 (60 hours); and NDT-​Visual Test­ing (24 Hours).
